Everything Screen

I picked up Bean from daycare on Monday night. It was a scorcher of a day and she'd been playing in the play yard when I picked her up from school.

As we settled into the car to head for home, Bean was understandably hot and wanting to cool off. We argued about whether she could put the window down.

Me: "Bean, I have the air conditioning on, leave the window up."

Bean: "I can't feel it. Oh, that's right, I have sunscreen on!"

Me: "Huh???"

Bean: "The sunscreen keeps me from getting hot when I 'm playing outside."

And evidently, keeps one from feeling the A/C in the car.

I love 5-year old logic!

Bandito Cats

"Look, that sign says 'no cats allowed'..." said Bean as we were waiting for the traffic light to change.

I totally get it.

My "Man and the Moon" Blouse!

Bean drew this picture of Georges Melies "Man in the Moon" after we watched the movie "Hugo" a few months back. I loved her picture so much, I uploaded it to Spoonflower and made it into fabric to make something for myself with!

I also made this fabric showing the movie poster and her image, not sure where I'd use the combination in my future project. I got a large swatch printed of the two images combined. Both sets of fabric were printed on a nice cotton lawn.

I found a blouse pattern from Butterick ( B6215) that had a Lagenlook-vibe to it.

It's coming along...

I stitched the edges of the sleeves and bottom of the ruffle using the star-stitch on my machine but in a smaller size to make it narrower. I used gradient thread, which I adore for the change in colors.

I'm "sew" easily amused!

Finished product! And it is so, so, comfortable to wear, too. This is the same top I'm going to make in the Octopus and Viewfinder fabrics I bought.

I cut out and starched like crazy one of the images of the poster. I positioned it and stitched it like a label on the back of the top for decoration and to also help explain to people where Bean got her creative design from.

More Fabric Acquisitions

I bought some delicious fabrics at the fabric store today.

The striped seersuckers and the espresso and khaki linens will be more wide -legged pants for me. The prints, super soft Japanese cottons, will be flowing tops.

I love the octopus but the Viewfinder print is really, really, awesome!!!

These yarn-dyed linen cottons from Robert Kaufman are amazing to sew with. This espresso-colored weave will be a go-to year round!

If You're Going to Be A Part of This Family...

The you have to learn how to change out the kegerator!

Here, Bean learns the fine points of cleaning lines and tightening gaskets.

Remember, you turn the gasket AWAY from the monkeys (No drink for the monkey's!) to tighten it so that it can pour beer or in this case, my favorite Anthem Cherry Cider.

When you empty the keg, then you turn the gasket TOWARD the monkey's to release it so you can swap out the keg and clean the lines. It's only safe to turn it toward the monkey's when a keg is empty.

Bean did an awesome job.

Not like we were surprised.  She is a Camarillo, after all.

It's in the genes...

Luck

This morning we saw the Lucky Charms cereal box advertised on a billboard on the way to preschool.

 Lucky-Charms.jpg

Bean: "Lucky Charms are 'Lucky'."

Me: "Why?"

Bean: "Because you're lucky when you get them."

Yep, that was certainly my experience growing up...

Safety First

While we were at Chez Buck on Saturday, the girls wanted to check out their car in the garage. Charles took them out to see it. He said Lulu jumped in the back seat and Bean hopped behind the wheel.

Almost as soon as they took their selected spots, they got into character:

Lulu:  "Are we there yet? Are we there yet?? Are we there yet???"

Bean: "Sit still and put your seat belt on!"

Lulu:  "Are we there yet?"

Bean: "Sit still and keep quiet!"

Both of them loved the car! And you can see I'm always stressing safety first in the car, myself.
